Armed Fugitive With ₹1 Lakh Bounty Killed in Police Encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli
A wanted criminal carrying a ₹1 lakh bounty was shot dead in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district. Police say the man, linked to the Bawariya gang, opened fire when officers raided a hut where he was hiding with associates. A carbine and foreign pistol were recovered as the search for other gang members continues.
According to officials, a police team moved in on a makeshift hut where Mithun and several associates were allegedly drinking when the operation began. As officers attempted to surround the hideout, the suspects opened fire, prompting police to retaliate. Mithun was fatally wounded in the exchange, while his associates managed to flee into nearby fields under the cover of darkness.
Investigators recovered a carbine and a foreign-made pistol from the scene, both of which are now being examined to determine their use in previous offenses. Authorities said the raid was part of a wider operation aimed at dismantling the Bawariya network in western Uttar Pradesh, where the gang has been linked to robberies and assaults in recent years.
Police teams are continuing to search for the remaining gang members, with senior officials stating that additional raids are planned based on intelligence inputs. The encounter marks a significant development in the crackdown on organized criminal groups in the region, reinforcing the state’s ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and apprehend high-profile offenders.
